The ShowMarkdown desktop application does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data — it runs entirely on your device. This website (showmarkdown.com) uses Google Analytics, but only after you accept the cookie banner.

What the ShowMarkdown application does not collect

  • No names, email addresses, or contact information
  • No usage statistics or telemetry
  • No crash reports sent to external servers
  • No content from the files you open

Website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage statistics — which pages are visited and how visitors navigate the site. No personal content is collected, and IP addresses are anonymized before any data is sent to Google.

Analytics cookies are only set after you explicitly accept via the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, no analytics data is collected and no cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer.

Google Analytics data is processed by Google LLC in accordance with their privacy policy. This applies only to the website — the desktop application itself sends no analytics.

Data stored on your device

ShowMarkdown stores a small settings file locally on your computer at %APPDATA%\RMP Software\ShowMarkdown\settings.json. This file contains only application preferences (theme, window size, last opened file path, etc.) and never leaves your device.

Network access

ShowMarkdown does not make any network requests during normal use. The application is fully offline. The Microsoft Store update mechanism is handled by Windows — ShowMarkdown itself has no network code.

Third-party services

ShowMarkdown does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services. No third party receives data about your use of the application.

Children

ShowMarkdown collects no data from anyone, including children under 13 (COPPA) or children under 16 (GDPR). The application is appropriate for all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at showmarkdown.com/privacy with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
